From the personal to the political — Laura is involved in taking direct action, using social media and public platforms to address:
- Reproductive justice.
- Antisemitism in healthcare and birth spaces.
- Protests against the privatisation of the NHS.
- Breastfeeding shaming.
- Perinatal mental health.
- LGBTQI+ rights.
- Services and support for premature babies & their families.
- Policy - maternity, midwifery and equal healthcare.
Shifrah UK
Shifrah UK was co-founded by Laura in 2025 to foster an environment where every Jewish birth worker, birthing woman and family feels safe and secure. We take our name from Shifrah and Puah, the courageous Hebrew midwives named in the Exodus story.
Shifrah UK celebrates and informs on Jewish cultural birth practices, and provides information, education and training in maternity and birth contexts.
We provide a collective voice that advocates for our community, helps to build understanding of our heritage and culture, and combats antisemitism.
